The Liberal Arts & Sciences (LAS) Portfolio is one of the graduation requirements to get a degree at University College Roosevelt. This LAS Portfolio consists of three parts:
- Personal & Professional Development Trajectory (PPD).
- Research-intensive course at the advanced level.
- A collection of works produced throughout your studies.
Personal & Professional Development trajectory
The PPD trajectory starts in the first semester with a course in which you’ll learn skills like teamwork, communication and adaptability that will transfer to all other courses you will take. This to ensure that you are prepared for your academic journey and future career and feel supported along the way.
The first semester foundational course you will engage with a civic engagement project and apply your learning through real-world challenges. The projects will provide hands-on experience with societal issues and introduce you to the clusters in the curriculum.
Research-intensive course
The advanced-level research-intensive courses let you develop advanced research skills tailored to the knowledge areas of the associated cluster. The research-intensive courses blend group work, workshops and individual research. Group work focuses on refreshing foundational research techniques, exploring general processes, and fostering collaboration and idea exchange. In the workshops, you will enhance your career readiness. Individually, you undertake research projects on topics selected from instructor-proposed themes. You will include your research output (e.g. research papers or a research thesis) in your portfolio, to show evidence of your ability to engage in research.
Full portfolio
At the end of your time at UCR, you submit your portfolio, following a ‘book of evidence’ approach. You’ll compile work samples that demonstrate your academic progress, personal and professional development, and career readiness. You can also use this during Master applications. Your Tutor will support you with curriculum planning and portfolio building throughout your time at UCR.
