Our campus locations
All UCR students have to live on campus in one of several housing locations within the center of Middelburg. This is where you will cook, eat, study, and party with fellow students from all over the world.
In some locations, you will have your own private bedroom but share bathroom and kitchen facilities with 9 to 15 other students. In our other locations, you either have your own personal apartment or share a bathroom and kitchen with one other student. All student housing on campus is organized by Gapph Student Housing.
Here is a summary of what you can expect from each of the housing locations:
-
Bachtensteene
Bachtensteene is the smallest campus location and closest to UCR, it is home to 76 students. As the building was previously a home for the elderly, students live in studio apartments where they have access to a private bedroom and living area, bathroom (including toilet, shower, and sink) and a kitchenette. Each room has between 20 and 25m2 of floor space. If that is not enough space for you, there are also common rooms on the ground, first, and second floors that are used for house breakfasts and dinners, campus parties, and game nights. There are also several shared laundry rooms to be used for free. Unique to Bachtensteene is the large communal kitchen where you can cook for large groups of people, host cooking competitions, or prepare your own meal.
-
Bagijnhof
Though Bagijnhof is home to as many students as Roggeveenhof, the 180 people living here are spread throughout several houses of 10 to 16 people each. These are located in the streets Bagijnhof, Pluim or Breeweg. You share a common room, a kitchen, two bathrooms, and laundry facilities while living in Bagijnhof, You still have your own private bedroom of 10 to 20m2. The houses are located in one of the oldest neighborhoods of Middelburg and are a five-minute walk from UCR. Due to its shared, social nature, Bagijnhof is known for its great communal atmosphere, house parties, late-night homework sessions in the common rooms, and house dinners every day.
-
Koestraat
Koestraat is located in the inner-city of Middelburg and is only a five-minute walk from the main UCR buildings. This former office building has now been turned into single and double studio apartments of 14 to 35m2, where the 120 inhabitants each have their own private bedroom, and either a private or shared bathroom and kitchen. Each floor also houses a cozy common room, which can be used for floor dinners, parties, and study sessions, and a laundry room that is free to use. Furthermore, you can safely park your bike in the bicycle shed on the ground floor of the building, and there is an elevator.
-
Roggeveenhof
Roggeveenhof is located just outside the city center, and is a ten-minute walk away from the UCR building, though many people use their bicycle to go to class. This location is home to around 180 students, who all have a private living space including bathroom and kitchen of approximately 20m2. There are also a few twin rooms, where two students share a bathroom and kitchen but each has their own bedroom. Furthermore, Roggeveenhof has several common rooms, free to use laundry rooms, an elevator, and a bike shed.
-
Alternative locations
There may be occasions (although rare) when all rooms in the abovementioned locations are occupied. In such instances, accepted students will be placed in alternative locations, still within the centre of Middelburg. Students can apply to move to a different room or campus location at the end of each semester.
