As a computer scientist with a strong focus on algorithms, he has researched and worked on the motion and manipulation of robots. Next to this, he has also done work on computer animation and surgery planning and simulation. He received MSc and PDEng degrees from Eindhoven University of Technology in 1988 and 1990 and a Ph.D. degree from Utrecht University in 1994. Dr. van der Stappen will continue to spend 10% of his time at UU, the remainder at UCR.
