What is Warm Sweater Day?

The premise behind this annual tradition is simple: put on a warm sweater, turn down the heating in your home, class or office and reduce the emissions of CO2. It is a simple yet effective movement that we can all take part in to make a difference. According to the Warm Sweater Day organization, turning down the heating by at least one degree can lower CO2 emissions by 6%. You can check out this infographic (in Dutch) to learn more about the enormous energy saving potential that we can have together on this day.

How to Participate

On this day, we encourage everyone in our UCR community to turn down the heating in their classrooms, offices, homes and housing locations and to put on a nice, cozy sweater to keep warm. We also want this movement to reach people beyond our own UCR community, so we ask our students, faculty and staff to share the message with their families, friends and loved ones so that we can all make a difference and reduce our carbon footprint.
