About me
About me
I was born and raised in the beautiful province of Zeeland. I studied Applied Physics at Delft University of Technology. I also got my PhD degree from the same university in 2002. I continued working at TU Delft as a postdoc for another two years. I am working at UCR since the very beginning in 2004. I have been teaching a wide variety of courses at UCR. My current teaching focuses on Mathematics courses. Besides teaching, I have been Senior Tutor and Chair and member of the Board of Examiners for many years. I have supervised many student’s research projects on a wide variety of topics, like quantum mechanics, computer vision, computational neuroscience and robotics. It is truly a joy and an honor to collaborate with students with such broad backgrounds, talents and ambitions. The small scale and intensity of the UCR program allows students to build a strong and effective professional relationship with their instructors. A relationship that students can start to build right from their first days at UCR, instead of in a Master program, or not at all. As instructor it is great to see the personal and academic growth of students from a 100-level course in their first semester to advanced courses in their final semester. After UCR, students find their ways via interesting Master programs to so many different job opportunities, including teaching. My personal ambition at UCR is to teach 25 (or more) and inspire each of them to teach another 25 (or more).
