Application Process

Application Process

If you could see yourself at UCR in the future, find out how you can make it happen!

Are you considering applying to UCR?  Let us walk you through the application process step by step, from registering in Studielink to completing your application in our Osiris portal and moving on to the selection assessment. Scroll down to see how it all works and begin your journey to Middelburg.

These are the steps in the application process

These are the steps in the application process

Check whether you are admissible – +

To become a student at UCR, you will need to meet certain minimum requirements. Those requirements include your previous education as well as your English proficiency. You can find out whether you meet the minimum entry requirements here.

Make sure you know the deadlines – +

Before you start your application, it is important to know the deadlines so that you can plan ahead and submit in time. UCR has two intake moments, which means that there are two application cycles per year.

If you intend to start in our Fall semester, applications will open early in October the year before you wish to start. The following application deadlines then apply:

  • Apply by March 1 if you also wish to apply for a scholarship
  • Apply by April 1 if you are not applying for a scholarship and have a non-European passport
  • Apply by May 1 if you are not applying for a scholarship and have a European passport

If you intend to start in our Spring semester, applications will open up mid-July of the year you wish to start. The following application deadlines then apply:

  • Apply by September 15 if you also wish to apply for a scholarship
  • Apply by October 1 if you are not applying for a scholarship and have a non-European passport
  • Apply by November 1 if you are not applying for a scholarship and have a European passport

Register in Studielink – +

All students hoping to apply to a program at any Dutch university must register in Studielink. Studielink is a nation-wide registration system for higher education, rather than an application portal. While it might feel like an application portal, registering in Studielink is only the first step of your application to UCR. Don’t forget to complete the rest!

Here is how you correctly register your interest to apply for UCR in Studielink:

  • Go to studielink.nl. If necessary, you can change the language setting in the top right corner.

  • There are two ways to create an account. If you live in the Netherlands, you must create your Studielink profile by signing in with your DigiD. If you are Dutch but are living elsewhere, or you are an international student, you can create a Studielink profile without DigiD.

  • Fill out all relevant information. Please use an email address that you will continue to have access to after you finish high school, as your Studielink account will be used throughout your studies, not just at the application stage. Make sure to check your educational history before clicking next.

  • You can now start your registration for your UCR application. The easiest way to find the UCR program is by setting the program type to ‘WO Bachelor’ and search for location ‘Middelburg’. Select ‘Liberal Arts & Sciences (University College Roosevelt)’ before clicking next.

  • Fill out your preferred start date. You can start in Fall (1 September) or in Spring (1 February).

  • Fill out your enrolment type as ‘Student’.

  • Fill out the ‘start as’-section. Make sure to always select first-year student, even if you are hoping to transfer credits. If you select anything else, UCR will not have access to your application and will not be able to process it.

  • Answer all other questions before finally hitting confirm. You will be able to check your filled out data before hitting confirm once more.

  • That is Studielink done! You will receive some emails from Studielink about the remainder of your application. Please make sure to follow those instructions and reach out to admissions@ucr.nl if you get stuck.

Complete your UCR application in OSIRIS – +

Roughly five minutes after completing your Studielink registration, you should receive an email with your login information for the UCR application portal OSIRIS. This is where you will submit your actual application.

You will need to fill out your information, provide contact details for your referee, and upload supporting documents in OSIRIS in order to apply to UCR. While you can save your progress and do not need to submit the full application at once, it is useful to have all documents you need to submit ready (in PDF) once you sit down to apply.

Your full application needs to include the following elements:

  • a completed OSIRIS form,
  • contact details for up to 3 referees (teachers/counselors who will write your letter of recommendation),
  • a transcript or list of grades*,
  • proof of English proficiency (unless exempted),
  • a copy of your passport,
  • a high school diploma (only if you have already graduated)

*We would like to see an overview of grades from your pre-final year, as well as any grades you have obtained until the point of application in your final year. Please make sure to submit achieved grades, rather than predicted grades.

Application review by UCR Admissions – +

Once you complete your application, and your referees submit their recommendations, your file will be reviewed by the UCR Admissions Team. You will hear whether you are invited for the next stage of the selection process within 5 (Dutch) working days.

Complete your online assessment in Kira – +

Next, you will receive an invitation to complete the UCR online selection assessment in the Kira platform. Please create a profile on Kira using the student number you were assigned upon starting your application. You will have two weeks to complete the assessment but can do so at any time convenient to you.

During the assessment, you will answer a total of six questions about yourself and your experiences. Five of these questions will be recorded on video, whereas one of them will be a writing prompt.

Please note that you cannot complete the assessment on your phone. You will need a laptop or desktop computer with microphone and camera.

Application decision by UCR Admissions – +

After reviewing your OSIRIS application file and Kira assessment, the Admissions Team will decide on whether to invite you to become a student at UCR. It is our aim to notify you of our decision within 10 (Dutch) working days after you completed your assessment in Kira.

Please note that any offer we make is conditional upon you meeting minimum entry requirements upon enrolment. As such, you are welcome to apply without having completed your high school, but you will need to complete it before you can start at UCR.

Accept your offer – +

If the outcome of your application is positive, you will have two weeks to let us know whether you want to take us up on the offer or not. You do this by completing the Offer Reply Form in OSIRIS. If you do accept the offer to study at UCR, you will be asked to pay a non-refundable deposit of €300. This deposit will be deducted from your first tuition fee payment.

Register and get excited about your time at UCR – +

Once you have confirmed your spot through the offer reply form and the payment of your deposit, we are looking forward to having you at UCR. You will receive further instructions about housing registration, enrolment at UCR and Utrecht University, your visa application (if relevant), tuition fee payments (once required), pre-departure meetings and, most importantly, how to meet your new classmates.

Deferral

Deferral

While we will always recommend you apply for the intake you intend to start in, you may find yourself in a situation where you wish to defer your offer to study at UCR. In case of exceptional circumstances, we can defer your entry either by a semester or a full year. Seeing as there are several steps in the application process you will have to take again, please be in touch through admissions@ucr.nl if you wish to defer, so that we can provide you with all appropriate information.

Cancelled application

Cancelled application

In some cases, UCR might decide to cancel your application. We can do so when the outcome of the selection process is negative. In this case you will first receive a formal rejection notification. Alternatively, we may cancel an application when the deadline has passed and we have not received a complete application package, or, you have failed to complete your online assessment in Kira, or, you have not responded to our offer. In these cases, you will receive several reminders and a cancellation notification first. If you have questions about a cancelled application, please reach out to admissions@ucr.nl.
