Study Abroad in Semester Four or Five
If you’re dreaming of studying courses UCR doesn’t offer, or if you simply want new scenery, you can apply to go on exchange during your fourth or fifth semester. Choose from UCR-specific programs or join Utrecht University’s expansive global network. UCR students have studied in destinations as diverse as Australia, Canada, Japan, France, and even within the Netherlands, like Eindhoven.
Start Planning Early
Start Planning Early
Exchange isn’t spontaneous, it’s planned. To be eligible, students must maintain a good academic standing (minimum 3.0 GPA) and apply at least a year in advance. Utrecht University’s deadline of December 1 guides the application calendar, and individual host institutions may have earlier cut-offs.

Experiencing life at Complutense University of Madrid made me realize how different UCR is from many other universities across Europe.

Not just outbound, UCR also welcomes incoming exchange students through UU partnerships. Visiting students live on campus, attend classes, and connect with our international community, learning alongside UCR degree students. If you’re a student at a partner university, you can study here in the fall or spring semester.
