Collaborating with UCR

Collaborating with UCR

Partner with UCR to co-create impact

The power of partnership

The power of partnership

At University College Roosevelt, societal engagement is one of the cornerstones of our mission; it is woven into how we teach and learn. We value partnerships that support not only the growth of our students but also contribute to regional challenges and the common good. Whether you are a research institute, a cultural organization, a business, or a community group, working with UCR means tapping into a network of engaged students, expert faculty, and an international campus in the heart of Zeeland.

Why collaborate with us?

Why collaborate with us?

  • Fresh perspectives: our interdisciplinary approach brings together data scientists and philosophers, engineers, sociologists and more. The result is creative thinking on the questions that matter to you.
  • Students who are committed: from community engaged and challenge-based projects to academic internships, UCR students apply classroom insight to real-world tasks, adding energy, diversity, and up-to-date knowledge to your team.
  • Research with roots and reach: Grounded in Zeeland’s living labs, our research tackles local issues with global relevance: climate adaptation, energy transition, cultural heritage, social innovation, artificial intelligence, health equality and more.
  • Straightforward, human partnerships: short lines while building long term relationships that benefit all parties, that is how we like to work.

Ways to Partner with us

Ways to Partner with us

Find an Expert – +

Our faculty’s expertise spans a wide spectrum, from medical knowledge on vaccines to historical research on Zeeland and other regions, from advanced data science and science communication to governance and ethical issues, and from social insights on topics such as loneliness in elderly to civic engagement on questions of climate change. Engagements may lead to impactful outcomes, whether advising on policy, co-writing a research grant, contributing expert commentary to the media, or organizing a guest lecture or workshop. Sessions can be tailored for professional audiences or adapted to engage lay audiences effectively.

Student Internships – +

Host a motivated student for a one-semester project. Interns apply their academic skills to real challenges in your organization or business, working under the joint supervision of a UCR faculty member and a representative from your organization. The work must be at an academic bachelor level and conducted in English. Internships typically run part-time between late August and mid-December or late January and mid-May, or full-time from early June to mid-July, totalling around 210 hours over the semester to ensure meaningful and engagement.

Community Engaged Learning – +

Work with a student team on a societal issue relevant to your organization.  Community Engaged Learning (CEL) is an experiential learning approach where students collaborate closely with peers, instructors, societal partners, and citizens to address real-world societal issues. Key features of CEL include:

Community engagement: students tackle scientific challenges with direct societal relevance, often in partnership with local communities;

Reciprocity: all participants contribute to and benefit from the collaboration;

Student reflection: linking practical experience to scientific theory, fostering personal growth and self-regulated learning.

Extensively researched, particularly in Anglo-Saxon countries, CEL not only promotes civic engagement and enhances student skills such as cognitive development, career exploration, and interpersonal abilities, but it also creates significant impact for the organizations involved, making it a truly mutually beneficial approach.

Research Partnerships – +

Collaborate on focused research that responds to regional needs. We welcome joint initiatives with businesses, non-profits, and government.

Research projects typically involve students who apply their academic skills to real-world challenges, fostering practical learning and innovation. Partners can also engage within the DDC partnership framework, enabling access to a broader network of expertise and resources to maximize impact.

Making Use of Facilities – +

University College Roosevelt is proud to call one of Middelburg’s most iconic buildings home: the former city hall at Lange Noordstraat 1. This remarkable Gothic monument, rich in architectural beauty and cultural history, is not only the heart of our university—it’s a landmark in the province of Zeeland. We feel fortunate to work in such a space every day—and we believe it shouldn’t be reserved for us alone. That’s why UCR welcomes individuals, organizations, and institutions to make use of our unique venues for events, conferences, and special occasions.

Moreover, as partner of the Joint Research Center Zeeland (JRCZ) UCR has an extensive selection of research facilities that can be used as part of a research or educational innovative project.

The Joint Research Center Zeeland (JRCZ), opened in December 2022 in Middelburg, is a state-of-the-art research facility where vocational, applied university, and university students and researchers collaborate with industry on key challenges in the South-West Delta. Focused on water, energy, food, and the biobased economy, JRCZ addresses issues such as salination, freshwater shortages, protein transition, and sustainable energy. The center boosts technical education in Zeeland and strengthens ties between education, research, and industry, driving innovation and supporting a future-proof regional economy.

Attend, Visit & Engage – +

Join our open lectures, debates, and cultural events—ranging from performances by our student choir and theatre groups to debates led by our student teams. Faculty and guest speakers deliver open lectures in either Dutch or English. Let us know if you’d like to be added to our mailing list and stay informed about upcoming events.
