Dr. Hans Bloemsma

I am an associate professor in Art History and have been at UCR since 2005. My teaching is broad with a focus on Western art and the wider world. It includes courses on Italian Renaissance art, African art, Modern and Contemporary art and the theories and methods of art history. My research interests focus on Italian art from the late Middle Ages. I have a special interest in questions of historiography, the artistic relations between late medieval Italy and Byzantium, and the reception of Italian painting in modern and contemporary art.
