Transfer Students

Thinking of continuing your studies at UCR after starting elsewhere? In the Netherlands, transfer applications work a little differently, as you should first apply to UCR as a new incoming student through our standard admissions process. Once admitted, you can then request a transfer of credit if you’ve completed at least 30 ECTS (and preferably 60 ECTS) at a Dutch research university or an international equivalent.

If you are interested in transferring credits to UCR, you’ll follow the same application process as any other new student. Start by applying through Studielink as a new first year student, then complete your application in OSIRIS. During the application, you have the option to indicate that you wish to request a transfer of credit.
To complete your application, make sure to upload:
-
Your high school diploma
-
A list of subjects and grades (or an official transcript) from your current university
-
A list of courses in progress that you expect to complete before starting at UCR

If you have completed at least 30 ECTS—preferably 60 ECTS—at a Dutch research university or an international equivalent, you may be eligible to request a transfer of credit. UCR can accept up to 60 ECTS credits (one year of academic work), depending on the courses you have taken and your intended area of study here. In some cases, a minimum GPA or average grade may also be required.
Because the Dutch educational system differs from many others, university coursework may be required for admission in some cases. If you are unsure whether your credits are transferable, contact the Admissions Office at admissions@ucr.nl. Please note that evaluating coursework from international universities can take extra time, so we encourage you to submit your application as early as possible.
Transfer of Credit requests are only considered after you have been admitted to UCR. If approved, your transfer will be set at either 30 or 60 ECTS credits (equivalent to one or two semesters)—no other amounts are possible. The transfer offer becomes final only once UCR has received your official transcript or diploma showing all completed courses and grades.
