The book by Dr. Tobias van Gent and Hans Sakkers was picked as winner from 61 submissions this year. According to Dr. van Gent, the book is quite unique as it shows three sides of the battle, including that of the citizens, which hitherto remained in the dark. The jury of the Zeeuwse Boekenprijs agreed and stated that “With this well-documented book, the authors give the Battle of the Scheldt the place in history it deserves”.
A tradition started in 2013, each year, the Zeeuwse Boekenprijs is awarded to the best book which either has a topic related to the province of Zeeland, or was written by an author with a relation to Zeeland.
This year’s award ceremony was a little different due to the ongoing pandemic. Only a small group of book enthusiasts was present when Dr. van Gent and Hans Sakkers received their award.
