Life on Campus
UCR is not just about academics. It’s about development, connections, and purpose

A place to learn, live, and grow together
A place to learn, live, and grow together
At UCR, campus life is at the heart of everything you do. You don’t just go to class here. You become part of a close-knit, international community that lives and learns together in the historic center of Middelburg.
Think of campus as an academic village
Think of campus as an academic village
Our campus feels like a small academic village, with everything within walking distance. Classes take place in three distinct buildings; Franklin, Eleanor, and Anne, each named after the Roosevelts and each with a character of its own.
Franklin is our most iconic building. A former Gothic city hall, it’s a symbol of Middelburg and a space full of history and charm. It houses UCR’s administrative offices and the Burgerzaal, our largest meeting hall. From quirky staircases to hidden corners, Franklin invites exploration. Just outside Franklin, and at the heart of campus lies Helm Square, a lively meeting point where you’ll often see students talking between classes or heading to lunch.
Eleanor is the academic heart of UCR. This is where you’ll attend most of your classes and where you’ll find all faculty offices, close and approachable. It’s also home to our well-being space, with areas for yoga, meditation, or even a quick nap in a sleeping pod. Because learning thrives when you feel your best.
Anne is our most modern building. Purpose-built for today’s students, it features labs, flexible classrooms, open study spaces, and its own quiet garden. Whether you’re working on a group project or researching in a lab, Anne supports innovative learning in a calm and inspiring setting.
Each space reflects part of who we are: rooted in tradition, driven by ideas, and always evolving.

Learning that goes beyond the classroom
Learning that goes beyond the classroom
At UCR, your learning doesn’t stop when class ends. You apply your knowledge to real questions, in real places, with real impact.
You might carry out lab work or interdisciplinary research in the Joint Research Center Zeeland (JRCZ), a high-tech facility that connects science, data, and society. It’s a place where you test ideas, explore solutions, and work alongside students and researchers from across the region.
You might dive into the Archives, where centuries of documents, maps, and manuscripts open the door to original historical research. For students in humanities and social sciences, this is where history becomes hands-on.
Or you might spend hours in the ZB Library of Zeeland, a beautifully modern public library that UCR students use for study, group work, and research. Just a short walk from campus, it offers a wealth of resources and a quiet space to focus.
Together, these spaces turn Middelburg into your extended classroom. Here, learning is not just something you do, it’s something you live.
