About the Choir
Since the founding of UCR, the Roosevelt College Choir has been at the heart of our college’s strong musical community. More than just part of the university, it has become a beloved part of Middelburg and one of the most emblematic symbols of student contribution to the town.
The combined efforts of Ramon van den Boom, our conductor, and the student choristers allow the choir to perform regularly in front of audiences composed of locals, students, professors, and other members of the academic community. We have sung Christmas carols on the cold streets of Middelburg and at the Bagijnhof Christmas market, performed in church services, at art galleries, during graduations and other UCR events, and sold out an evening full of music in the nearby chapel. In the spring of 2024, the Chorale Université de Louvain came to Middelburg to sing with us in a church filled with an audience comprised of students and inhabitants of Middelburg. One year later we returned the favor by traveling to Louvain for another concert at their university.
We do 2-hour-long weekly rehearsals, where choristers get together to practice passionately and sing, but also to laugh and enjoy each other’s company. From proficient, professional musicians, to people who simply enjoy singing, we are a group where all are welcome.
We complement each other musically and make the choir a very special place where you can learn and grow not only as a singer but also as a person. We take our duties seriously, but we never fail to enjoy ourselves.
